HOOP IT UP AT SOUTH JEFFCO!

The basketball season is fast approaching, and the South Jeffco season will officially start the week of November 1.  Make sure you register by Friday, September 17 for gold crown players, and Friday, October 1 for rec players to avoid paying the late registration fee.  Register on-line by clicking the "Register Online" tab at left, or by clicking on the Basketball tab, above!

Team rosters for our rec program will be finalized by October 10.  Any registrations received after this date will be placed on a waiting list, and will only be accepted if teams have roster spots open.  Due to anticipated limited gym availability for this coming season, there is a possibility that we may have to limit the number of teams we have for the coming season, so it is strongly recommended to get registered by the October 1 deadline to guarantee a spot in our rec league!

Boys/Girls Gold Crown Basketball

The Gold Crown league is the premier competitive basketball league in the State of Colorado, and is open to boys and girls in 6th, 7th, and 8thgrade.  More information about this program is available at www.goldcrownfoundation.com.  Once again this season, South Jeffco will be sponsoring teams for the Gold Crown league, and will conduct formal tryouts for the three grade levels at Columbine and Chatfield High School.

There will be an informational parent’s meeting about the Gold Crown basketball program on
Thursday, September 16 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at the South Jeffco sports office at 6657 W. Ottawa Ave., Ste D-2.  All parents of players participating in the Gold Crown program are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.

Gold Crown Tryouts & Fees:  A formal tryout process will be held to determine the rosters for all gold and silver teams for boys and girls at Chatfield and Columbine high schools.  The high school coaches at Chatfield and Columbine will select the competitive teams after the tryouts are completed, and will have input as well on the selection of the coaches for the teams.  The number and quality of players will determine the number and level of play of all teams.

The date for the tryouts will be
Sunday, September 19th at the locations listed below. The times listed are tentative and subject to change.  Please arrive 30 minutes in advance to ensure adequate time for check in and for warm up.  Continue to check our website or call the South Jeffco office to confirm the date and times of tryouts in case of last minute changes.

Registration must be done online at our website at www.southjeffbasketball.org
.

If a player fails to make a gold or silver crown team after the tryouts are concluded, the player will still have the option to play in our rec program described in more detail below.

Gold Crown Teams, Waivers:  Athletes in the Columbine matriculation area must try out for the Columbine Gold Crown teams, and athletes in the Chatfield matriculation area must try out for the Chatfield Gold Crown teams.  SJSA does not sponsor Gold Crown teams for Dakota Ridge players, since the Dakota Ridge Basketball Association sponsors those teams.

Other Important Items:  Players must attendthe tryouts to be considered for a team and should have a parent/guardian present.  Players living in the respective high school boundaries receive priority for assignment to competitive teams.  The Gold Crown guidelines require that a minimum of 70% of the players on each team must be within the high school boundaries.  This minimum guideline will be maintained for all team selections.

Anyone interested in coaching one of the competitive teams must complete a coach’s application available online at www.southjeffbasketball.org
 by
September 17th.  A committee will conduct interviews and select coaches.  NO coaches are selected to coach any of the teams until after the interviews and tryouts are complete.  Anyone interested in coaching is encouraged to apply.  In addition, background checks will be required for all new coaches, as well as existing coaches that have not a background check completed within the past year.

Competitive Rec and Rec Basketball

Boys & Girls Rec Programs:  Our Boys and Girls Rec teams will once again compete in the Jefferson County Basketball Conference (“JCBC”) with teams participating in 3rd– 8thgrade rec and competitive rec divisons.  The 3rdgrade boys and girls division will be comprised entirely of rec teams for the first year, although the 3rdgrade boys divisions have traditionally been split into lower and upper rec divisions.  Any experienced 2ndgrade players or teams are allowed and encouraged to play up into the 3rd grade division if they so choose.

Starting in 4thgrade, the JCBC can offer up to three divisions from A (most competitive) to B (upper rec) to C (lower rec) depending on the number and level of teams.  Players on all teams in the 4th - 8th grades can return to their previous teams as long as the coach wants to retain them and the player wants to return to his or her previous team.

Practices will start the week of November 1, JCBC league games will run from the week after Thanksgiving through the end of February, and playoffs will be the last week of February, ending on Friday, February 25.

Fees:  Fees for our boys/girls recreational program will be $190 per player for 3rdand 4thgrade, and $205 per player for 5th– 8thgrade.  All registrations for our rec program are due by Friday, October 1.  Registrations received after this deadline will be charged an additional $35 late fee, so all players are encouraged to get registered on time to avoid paying the late fee, and to guarantee their placement on a team.  Registration for our rec programs can be done online at www.southjeffbasketball.org.

Uniforms:  South Jeffco is excited to announce that again this season, all rec and gold crown teams participating in the South Jeffco basketball program will be provided a basic uniform, with a reversible jersey and matching shorts, in either Chatfield or Columbine colors, as part of each player’s registration fee.  Sizing information for each player’s uniform will be requested during online registration.

Coaches:  Anyone interested in coaching will be required to complete our online coach’s application at www.southjeffbasketball.org.  In addition, background checks will be required for all new coaches, as well as existing coaches that have not a background check completed within the past year.  All coach’s applications must be completed by October 1.

Thanks to all of the directors, coaches, team parents, and all of the other volunteers who work so hard to ensure that our youth have a basketball program in which to participate.  Welcome back to all of our returning players and coaches, and welcome to all of our new participants.  It’s going to be another great season!
